Imaginative Journeys Camps
in Statesboro, Georgia for ages 8-12
Introducing Our Camp Series...
Here in Statesboro, we have developed three varieties of week-long day camp. All of them reflect our philosophy of entertaining, amusing, and involving kids while inviting them to experience and think. All of our programs are led in person by professional historian Dr. Annette Laing and her team of knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and experienced creative professionals.
We also offer one-day or shorter programs which give kids a taste of Camp Snipesville, and provide affordable formats for public libraries and schools. For more information on camps that we currently take on the road and our short programs, visit Our Traveling Programs page.
Camp Snipesville
It's A Blast From The Past!
Camp Snipesville is set in the imaginary town of Snipesville (the setting for The Snipesville Chronicles, director Dr. Annette Laing's series of middle-grades novels.) Sleepy Snipesville is the unlikely site of time- travel adventures to the pasts of two closely-connected nations, the United States of America and the United Kingdom.
Far from being the dull place that it appears, Snipesville is full of laughter and surprises. Campers never know what to expect next, or which guests might walk in the door.
Camp Snipesville introduces kids to thinking historically, using a multidisciplinary approach that includes art, music, lots of make-believe, and Imaginative Journeys' hallmark sense of humor.
Not to mention that Camp Snipesville might be the only camp in the world for middle-gradersdesigned and led by an author with a PhD in history AND a British accent.
The Growing List of Our Camp Snipesville Themes...
Camp Snipesville: World War II

Whether pretending to be wartime British child evacuees handling real pounds, shillings and pence, or learning how to extinguish an incendiary bomb, campers delve back into the time when the world was at war. You'll meet real wartime survivors, make your own propaganda posters, and much, much more...!
Camp Snipesville Victorian Adventures
Queen Victoria reigned from 1837 to 1901, and a lot changed on both sides of the Atlantic. Kids try their hands at working for a living in a pottery factory, and living in a grim Victorian workhouse. They also put on their best manners for a genteel tea and parlor games.
Camp Snipesville Back to the Fifties

Hula hoops, classic cars, cowboys and Indians, outrageously disgusting congealed salads and Howdy-Doody all make an appearance, but this was also the time of Cold War and Civil Rights. We also spend a day having a typical postwar British vacation at a holiday camp! Kids explore this complicated time in the perfect surroundings of a 1951 motel.
Camp Snipesville Medieval Mayhem

Kids: Ever besieged a castle, or defended one from attack? You will at camp Snipesville Medieval Mayhem! You'll also try out life as a medieval shopper, market trader, and globe-trotting merchant... You'll enjoy a castle feast, and cook like a peasant...And put on an instant play straight from the 14th century!
NEW! Camp Snipesville Riches to Rags
The Roaring 20s and The Great Depression

Listen up, guys and dolls, because we're taking you back to the Twenties... Gangsters, the Charleston, and the Harlem Renaissance are all there, while radios and record players and toasters are all state-of-the-art gadgets! But can we survive the collapse of the economy, and find a job with a New Deal agency? Of course!
Elemental Journeys
Science With a Sense of Humor!
Elemental Journeys brings kids science with our unique blend of Imaginative Journeys humor, imagination, silliness, and respect for the great intelligence and intellectual curiosity of middle grades children.
Our Elemental Journeys:
Elemental Journey: Georgia Safari

Hack your way through the densely-forested hinterlands of Georgia to the tiny settlement of Boromanjaro, where the staff of the Boromanjaro Safari Lodge eagerly await your arrival. Seasoned safari guide Brett is ready to take you into the wild lands of Georgia to meet exotic critters! Boromanjaro Lodge Keeper Annette will keep you laughing, and serve up tasty treats from locally-sourced ingredients! We’ll track wildlife on a habitat scavenger hunt…and get lost in the woods and build shelters to survive in the wild. Put on your safari hat, and get ready for adventure!
NEW! Elemental Journey; Is It a Bird? Is It A Plane? The Physics of Nature!

Kids arrive at Boromanjaro Airport for a week-long tour of the world. But --shh!--we're going to be stuck in the airport instead. Have no fear, though, because Captain Brett is not only a pilot, but a nature expert. While we wait for the plane to be fixed, he'll lead kids in exploring how physics isn't just for Einstein: It's for animals, plants, and us!
